ricky eat acid - so i will not fall deep in to the earth

End of year lists are largely redundant for two reasons; the first being that, generally, thanks to downloading and the internet, the modern day listener consumes way, way, way too much music to objectively say ‘these are my favourite records this year’ without forgetting something. The second, both a blessing and a curse, is that end of year lists are an amazing resource for discovering great music.

Up until checking Flashlight Tag’s end of year blog post I’d largely been ignorant of ricky eat acid’s genius. I hadn’t purposefully avoided him, i just hadn’t had the time to listen. Obviously, after hearing his two big releases from last year, the beat work of Haunt You Forever and the masterful, beautiful spectral drone record Seeing Little Ghosts Everywhere, I regretted this. I’ve been making up for lost time, scouring his bandcamp, taking in as much of his stuff as possible, falling in love a little more since then. You should too, and you should start with this new track - a new high in a back-catalogue of peaks - which kinda recalls William Basinski, just a little.

You can read an account of what we’ve got to come from R.E.A., also known as Sam Ray, here.
